The website concept and setup started in late 2009 with the intention of launching in late January 2010. The team at Nutwork Website Design in Subiaco have provided invaluable practical web-based design hints.
The initial phase of setting up the website while complete may, as is usual with new computer applications, present some challenges! The intention is to let users explore the system, use the features and put it to work.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What fees are associated with Surgigas?
A: The website is free. There are no compulsory fees attached to registration or ongoing use. Once a year, to support the website running costs, a request for a voluntary contribution will sent. It is voluntary and users access to the website will not be affected. The maximum contribution will be less than $50.
Q: What do I do if no anaesthetist is available on the session?
A: You may choose to post the details of your list/case and wait. Anaesthetists browsing the website may then make direct contact. Alternatively you may try and contact other anaesthetists listing their availability for similar locations or specialities on the same day/session.
Q: How do I make a booking?
A: This still occurs as per the usual practice of a direct phone call to the user and discussing with them what is required. While availability is listed it doesn’t guarantee acceptance if the clinical situation doesn’t suit or accommodate both parties.
Q: What is the advantage of Surgigas?
A: The intention is to reduce the total number of phonecalls to find an anaesthetist, make an anaesthetist’s availability widely known where they have spare time and bring all the elements (theatre, anaesthetist, surgeon, and assistant) of a successful theatre case to one spot.
Q: What if I need to cancel a listed availability?
A: Visit the website and delete it after logging in. It should only take a few clicks!
Q: What if I need to cancel after making a booking?
A: The responsibility to contact the other users is yours. The website does no more than give you information to arrange work. It is reasonable and courteous to contact the other party directly as soon as possible to apologize.
Q: What is a case or a list?
A: A list is a long case or a number of cases which will reasonably take 3-4 hours. A case is of shorter duration not filling a 4 hour session which requires an anaesthetist or assistant.
Q: Why have hopitals been allocated to regions?

A: To simplify the input process for anaesthetists and assistants and allow reasonable control over travel distances, the metropolitan area has been split into 5 regions.
